Powdered vs Granular Bentonite - GCL Flow Test |
 |
This video presents a flow comparison in a modified permeameter of a powdered bentonite GCL (Geosynthetic Clay Liner) to a granular bentonite GCL under falling head conditions.
The difference in performance is explained by the fact that the powdered bentonite GCL forms a wetting front from the top down, when hydrated and the granular bentonite GCL permits transmission of water into the entire GCL thickness, due to the larger pore size in the GCL.

Geofabrics Journal - April 2011 - The Parsons Brinckerhoff (Aust) Report |
 |
Geofabrics® uses Product Data Sheets to provide information to customers about the geotextiles supplied by them. Similarly, other companies also publish product data sheets which set out information about the geotextiles supplied by them.
In 2009, Geofabrics® engaged a leading firm of consulting engineers, Parsons Brinckerhoff Australia (PBA), to test a range of geotextiles sold by various companies in Australia and to independently report on whether those geotextiles met with the published specifications about them.
Download the Geofabrics® April Journal to read an overview of the Parsons Brinckerhoff Report and contact Warren Hornsey, the National Technical Manager on 07 5594 8600 for the full report.

ELCOROCK® vs. Cyclone YASI - ELCOROCK® puts up a good fight... |
 |
Cyclone Yasi recently inflicted catastrophic destruction to a stretch of the Queensland coast including Townsville.
Townsville’s highest ever recorded wave height of 6.6 metres with winds of up to 280km/h flattened and moved almost anything in its path. In March 2010 an ELCOROCK® structure was constructed to protect a large rope playground that is situated on the beach and only 50 metres from the high tide mark.
This structure was constructed using the .75m³ containers. Cyclone Yasi was a real test for the ELCOROCK® system, and although the front of the structure became exposed, ELCOROCK® was successful in retaining the sand, thus preventing the playground footings from being destabilised.

ELCOROCK® sand containers fighting against coastal erosion on the Mornington Peninsula, VIC |
 |

Early in 2010, the ABC’s Stateline program ran a feature story regarding the concerns of coastal erosion occurring on Australian beaches. The Stateline program raised the question of climate change and the possible after effects the dredging recently carried out in Port Phillip Bay may be having on our coastline, particularly the coastal erosion affecting the Mornington Peninsula beaches.
See how Geofabrics® is helping the fight by supplying ELCOROCK® sand containers on the Portsea front beach. View by clicking the YouTube icon
