Erosion of soil from newly created or disturbed embankments or construction sites causes in the siltation of stormwater pipes and blockage of manholes, which results unnecessary flooding and damage to property and contamination of rivers and streams. Generally this erosion does not occur along well defined flow paths but rather as overland flow in very shallow depths known as sheet flow. In order to intercept the sheet flow and prevent the loss of valuable soil from the area silt fences are constructed along the areas natural contours.
Silt FenceTM is a temporary vertical sediment barrier designed to prevent fine debris carried by sheet flow from entering natural waterways and stormwater systems.
Silt FenceTM 1000 A very robust economical fencing fabric for use in highway projects. It is specially constructed from ultraviolet stabilised black polypropylene yarns, to resist degradation.
Silt FenceTM 1500 An extremely robust premium quality silt fencing specially designed to allow the free passage of water through a purpose constructed band. It is constructed from ultraviolet stabilised green and black yarns to resist degradation.
Silt FenceTM 2000 is a composite geotextile combining the benefits of bidim® non-woven, needlepunched, continuous filament geotextile and a high-strength woven fabric.
A Silt FenceTM is used to prevent sediment carried from construction sites, soil stockpiles and newly constructed embankments, entering natural drainage ways. Silt FenceTM encourages sheet flow and reduces potential for development of rills and gullies. Silt FenceTM should not be installed across streams, ditches, waterways or other concentrated flow areas.
