Geoweb® is an expandable, flexible, polymeric, 3-dimensional cellular structure which infill material is placed and compacted. This creates a free draining system which prevents mass movement and erosive loss of the infill materials.
The confinement action not only prevents the erosion but Geoweb® improves the structural and functional behavior of soil and aggregate infill materials, providing an alternative to hard engineering solutions such as reinforced concrete or rock armor.
The confining action and improved structural capacity lends Geoweb® to be used in many applications from erosion control, slope stability, retaining structures, channel lining and stability to pavements and load support.
Geoweb® is manufactured from inert polymer materials in collapsed, lightweight panels that can be easily handled on site. Geoweb® is manufactured to the highest international standards which has ISO9001:2000 accreditation.
Geoweb® provides a wide range of engineering solutions including; slope stability, earth retention, channel lining, load support and porous pavements.
Typical Geoweb® Applications
Slope and embankment stability
When used in sloping applications, Geoweb® creates a series of small check-dams along the soil surface, minimising the downward migration of the fill material and preventing the creation of rills and gullies in areas of concentrated flow. Geoweb® also promotes vegetation not only by preventing soil loss but also interacting with the root mass, increasing the erosive resistance and structural stability. Geoweb® is generally installed in conjunction with a layer a bidim non-woven geotextile to provide both a separation and filtration function to maintain the subgrade stability.
Earth retention and retaining walls
Geoweb®, due to its durable and flexible nature is ideal for use as a facing unit for retaining structures. The Geoweb® is installed and stacked horizontally to either form a mass gravity system or geogrid reinforced structure, using the Geoweb® as facing units and geogrid reinforcement. The Geoweb® retaining wall system allows vertical or near vertical installations, maximising usable land and can be vegetated at grades well beyond other retaining solutions. Similar to all retaining wall solutions drainage incorporating bidim filtration geotextiles and subsoil drainage systems is integral to maintain stability.
Channel lining and erosion protection
The confinement of the fill material and increased erosive resistance has the potential in other applications such as channel stability. The Geoweb® system increases the mobilisation velocity or hydraulic resistance of the infill material, weather aggregate, vegetation or concrete, when subjected to hydraulic flows, resulting from the confinement action of the 3-dimensional cell structure.
The flexibility of the system allows for use in many different situations, where many factors are important in the final design, such as environmental, ecological requirements, aesthetic requirements and hydraulic stresses.
Load support and porus pavements
The confinement mechanism that Geoweb® provides can also be used to increase the structural capacity of trafficked or loaded areas. The fill material is confined, creating a semi rigid raft, able to spread load on the subgrade and control shearing, differential and lateral movements. This is useful in applications such as access roads, both permanent and temporary and traversing excessively soft ground.
Geoweb® has other benefits when used as structural support for roads and foundations, it is possible to use site won granular materials, rather than import good quality granular material, it can also reduce the removal and replacement as it can be placed directly on soft subgrades.
