 Soil erosion by water and wind effects both agriculture and the natural environment. Soil loss, and its associated impacts, is one of the most important, yet probably the least well-known, of today's environmental problems. The use of erosion control mats has become a popular and cost effective method to limit the adverse effects of soil erosion.
Enviromat^® is an Australian made erosion control mat well suited to most general landscaping applications.
Enviromat^® is a biodegradable erosion control blanket consisting of poplar woodwool contained within an external polypropylene mesh. The product protects the soil from rain drop impact and reduces overland flow velocity.
Designed to protect the environment Enviromat^® will stabilise disturbed soil until vegetation cover is achieved, degrading within 12 - 36 months depending on exposure and exposure to ultraviolet light. Enviromat^® is sterile and as such will not introduce foreign vegetation into the region which is often a problem with hay bales and some biodegradable mats.

Cut and fill embankments

Cut and fill embankments are highly susceptible to erosion as the soil in these areas are not ideally suited to the growth of vegetation. In many cases vegetation requires protection in the early stages to ensure long term viability of the plants. Enviromat^® provides the temporary protection required to promote the germination and initial development of vegetation.

Low velocity drainage channels

Erosion of drainage channels causes in the siltation of stormwater pipes and blockage of manholes, which results unnecessary flooding and damage to property. Vegetation development along the invert of drainage channels will minimise the silt load carried into the stormwater system. Enviromat^® provides protection in the early stages of vegetation growth and biomedia created by degradation of the erosion control blanket.
