Without adequate maintenance, paved roads deteriorate rapidly. The escalating cost of paved road rehabilitation highlights the need for cost effective solutions to this problem. Since the early 1980’s the use of geotextile reinforcement in surfacing seals has been successfully applied worldwide.
Sealmac® paving fabric is nonwoven geotextile which prolongs road life, reduces overlay thickness, prevents water ingress and retards reflective cracking.
Sealmac® is a continuous filament nonwoven needlepunched polyester paving geotextile, which provides stress relief, waterproofing and reduced reflective cracking function in new and existing paved roads. Designed specifically for Australian conditions the PF1 & PF2 range has undergone a number of years of testing and refinement to provide the best overall performance.
Knowledge gained over 25 years allows our technical staff to provide relevant support based on local conditions, sound experience and proven performance.
Typical Sealmac® Applications
Extend the life of existing roads
Aging and oxidisation of the bitumen binder in old pavements causes bituminous surface treatments to become brittle and therefore unable to absorb movement which causes surface cracks to appear. Unless prompt action is taken moisture will penetrate the cracks and cause the road base to fail. Sealmac® is used as a means to prolong the life of the pavement by providing a waterproof and stress relieving membrane between old and new surfaces.
Sealmac® can be used in conjunction with single cold seals, double seals or asphaltic surfaces.
Road reconstruction with cement treated bases
Cracking associated with cemented materials due to shrinkage, thermal effects and fatigue can limit the life of a road. The use of Sealmac® paving fabric will reinforce the surfacing, limit reflective cracking and waterproof the surface seal.
Reflective crack control in Asphaltic pavement overlays
Sealmac® saturated with bitumen, effectively seals the existing pavement and reinforces the surface treatment. This treatment can take the form of localised crack sealing or patching or full width re-sealing. Sealmac® is manufactured to meet the specific needs of the client and is available in a range of widths.
Low volume roads
The use of
Sealmac® paving fabric immediately over the pavement formation enables the use of local, natural materials including clays, eliminating the haulage cost. The installation of
Sealmac® waterproofs the pavement surface, maintaining an equilibrium moisture condition in the pavement formation.
