The ingress of water into a roads pavement weakens the structure as a whole which has a disastrous effect on the life of the road. Water enters the road structure in three ways:
1 .Through cracks in the road surface.
2. Dynamic loads from road traffic generate a pumping effect, drawing water from the subsoil up into the road structure.
3. External pervious environment.
In these cases fast and efficient drainage will prevent the build-up of water in the road pavement and extend the life of the structure. Megaflo® is a drainage pipe with a difference as it combines high flow rates with outstanding drainage response times at a significantly lower price than traditional road edge drainage systems.
Megaflo® is a stiff, high flow velocity panel drain designed to maximise performance while minimising installation costs. The unique composite drainage product provides the end user with a complete geotextile encapsulated drainage system. Deployment apparatus can be supplied by Geofabrics Australasia to increase the efficency of the installation process.
The strength of Megaflo®is derived from a corrugated panel supported by internal pillars along the length of the drain. This shape and structure ensures high crush strength in both vertical and horizontal applications.
Megaflo® does not rely on the geotextile wrap to act as a structural member, the geotextile is designed purely to carry out its drainage and filtration function. This ensures no compromise is made to the geotextile in terms of drainage performance.
Megaflo® is relatively stiff in the vertical axis, minimising the effect of any localised settlement. The height of the product ensures drainage flows will be maintained unlike traditional round pipes which are likely to silt up and prevent any flow.

Typical Megaflo® Applications
Roads
Good road edge drainage is essential to ensure the long term performance of any road system. The Megaflo® drainage composite system provides a cost effective alternative to traditional French drains which make use of scarce natural resources.
Where construction deadlines are tight the use of the Megaflo® drainage system can halve the installation time when compared to traditional drainage methods. This can be attributed to the composite make up of the product which incorporates a geotextile wrap conforming to MRS 11.27 and R63 geotextile requirements.
Landfill
Landfill leachate and gas drainage is an integral part of landfill lining and capping systems, as without drainage to the liner extreme loading can ultimately lead to failure. The high compressive strength of Megaflo® under normal and inclined loads makes it the ideal product for a range of drainage applications in landfills.
Megaflo®is manufactured from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), thus the product is resistant to leachates present in landfill operations. If biological clogging is likely, Megaflo®can be supplied without the geotextile wrapping.
Sports Fields
Drainage of sports fields does not merely remove surplus water, its function is to remove it quickly allowing play to resume as soon as possible. A drainage system must be designed to suit the growing medium sub structure, with standard depths of 170mm, 300mm and 450mm of Megaflo® providing superior drainage response times for most sports field applications.
The use of narrow width Megaflo® flat panel drainage pipe ensures minimal disruption of the existing sports surface and quick recovery of the sports field surface.
Shotcrete Walls & Tunnels
Water pressure on structures located below the water table will affect stability of the structure, the release of this pressure is required to ensure its long term performance. Megaflo® is used to provide reliable drainage in specialist construction applications such as shotcrete walls and tunnels.
The nonwoven needle punched geotextile wrap used to encapsulate Megaflo® provides a good bond to the shotcrete on one side while the geotextile provides filtration of groundwater before it enters the conduit. The combination of the rigid structure of the Megaflo® and geotextile wrap prevents ingress of concrete during the high pressure application of the shotcrete.
